Orange County Partnership Announces Medline Ground Breaking

Medline, a healthcare company and the country’s largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies, is breaking ground on its new 1.3 million square foot facility in the Town of Montgomery. The company has operated a 500,000 square foot facility in Wawayanda for the past 15 years. Due to the increased demand for medical supplies, Medline requires an expanded storage and logistics center to serve local healthcare providers. The project is expected to create 350 new roles in the facility and approximately 300 construction jobs with about half of those jobs going to area contractors. Medline is a fourth generation, family-owned company offering over 550,000 medical products and clinical solutions to healthcare facilities around the world. Its New York customers span the continuum of care and include hospitals, assisted living centers, nursing homes, hospices, home healthcare agencies, ambulatory surgery centers, physician offices, labs and research and education organizations. The company employs more than 26,000 people with annual sales in excess of $14 billion.

Medline remains committed to Orange County and its 350 local employees. After an exhaustive site search, their future home in the Town of Montgomery will bring more than $15.6 million in taxes to the Town of Montgomery and County of Orange over the next 10 years. In addition, the company estimates more than $2 million of spending with area businesses annually.

As the land is now, the site currently pays a total of $45,410 in annual taxes. “If the land remained an open field, during the same time period, the taxes generated would be just under $500,000,” stated Maureen Halahan, President and CEO of the Orange County Partnership. “As one of the leading offices in economic development statewide, it is our mission to assist in the creation of good paying jobs and the expansion of our tax base. Once completed, Medline’s $120 million expansion will be a state-of-the-art, medical-grade distribution center outfitted with the latest technology. Medline’s Vice President of Real Estate Dmitry Dukhan stated, “Montgomery remains a vitally important community for Medline to operate. We designed this facility to combine the industry’s most advanced technology and energy efficient practices to attract the area’s top talent.”

The company’s importance has been highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic as it has worked around the clock to address the unprecedented demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) and other

medical devices used to treat patients. Additional storage and distribution capabilities in the Town of Montgomery benefits healthcare throughout the Hudson Valley.

In addition, Medline entered into a Community Benefits Agreement that will fund community projects, volunteer organizations, traffic and safety improvements, and local school district enhancement projects.
